Central Asia — Virtual Regional Meeting took place on 19–20 June 2025 within the framework of the multi-country project Pandemic Preparedness and Response through a One Health approach in Central Asia (2024-2026) funded by the Pandemic Fund.
The meeting brought together representatives from the health, agriculture, and environmental sectors of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to present the progress made during the second year of the project and to discuss priorities for the third year.
The event was organized by the implementing agencies of the project — the World Bank, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
One of keys issues of the agenda was the official introduction of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) as the Regional Coordination Secretariat under the newly approved World Bank regional program "One Health" for pandemic prevention, food system resilience, and ecosystem health in Central Asia.
CAREC presented its proposed role in supporting regional coordination efforts and upcoming activities, marking a significant step toward strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration in the region.
As the Regional Secretariat for the One Health Project, CAREC coordinates activities among participating countries, facilitates knowledge sharing, and ensures the integration of regional policies and strategies on pandemic prevention, food system sustainability, and ecosystem health.
The outcomes of the meeting will contribute to the preparation of the second-year project report, which is to be submitted to the Pandemic Fund Secretariat by July 31, 2025.
