The Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) will host the regional meeting over the Regional Statement “Voice of Central Asia” on behalf of the countries of Central Asia. The Regional Statement is expected to voice at the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt).
The meeting will bring together representatives of the national coordinators of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC COP27), persons designated by the countries for the development of the Regional Statement, and the officials of the international organizations.
The regional meeting will be held online mode.
The meeting’s purpose is to discuss the Regional Statement by the stakeholders and the partners to get recommendations and suggestions for further consideration, revision and approval by the countries under the established procedures.
The draft Regional Statement following the meeting will be submitted for further approval to the ministries of foreign affairs of the countries of Central Asia.
Recall that on the initiative of the Central Asian countries, CAREC launched the process of preparing the project “Regional statement of the Central Asian States “Voice of Central Asia” at COP-27 of the UNFCCC.
The Regional Statement “Voice of Central Asia” at COP-27 will draw the attention of the world community to the high vulnerability of the region, express the readiness of the Central Asian countries to strengthen international cooperation, demonstrate the measures taken by the countries of the region to adapt to and mitigate climate change, propose concrete actions to strengthen regional cooperation on transboundary issues.
The first project “Regional Statement” was presented at the seventh meeting of representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and parliamentarians of the Central Asian countries on climate change in Almaty, Kazakhstan, September 20, 2022. All Central Asian countries supported the need and desirability of developing a regional statement. The work continues in accordance with the action plan and timeline.
