Tashkent: nexus dialogues on “water-energy-food”
On 23d of June 2017 CAREC conducted consultative working group meeting in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in the frame of the Central Asia Nexus Dialogue project: Fostering Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus Dialogue and Multi-Sector Investment.
This meeting is a part of the planned consultative meetings in Central Asia countries conducting together with European Union and CAREC in the frame of the project aimed on the fostering water, energy and food security *.
Participants were represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Republic of Uzbekistan, State Committee for environmental protection of The Republic of Uzbekistan, Ministry of agriculture and water resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzbekenergo, Centre of Hydrometeorological Service at Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Participants discussed the issues of project registration in Uzbekistan, perspective partnerships and intersectoral platforms for dialogue and cooperation. Participants noted that registration of the project might require additional efforts. Accordingly, all potential project partners should be actively involved in the process. In particular, Ministry of agriculture and water resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan as well as Uzbekhydroenergo, recently established by decree of the President of May 18, 2017.
Some recommendations proposed to create the project intersectoral working group which will be responsible for making decisions with regard to pilot activities and generate ideas for investment projects. In particular, concepts of intersectoral investment project potentially could be developed as a contribution into Regional Environmental Action Plan and Aral See Basin Program as well as into existent national programs.
Organization of thematic session in the frames of CAIEF 2018 with involvement of investors and multi-sectoral development banks in order to increase awareness about investment potential of the country and the region as a whole- one of the main recommendation announced during the meeting.
