CAREC at the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development

CAREC at the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development

From June 12th to 14th 2017, CAREC participated in the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development, "SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT", in Astana, in the framework of EXPO-2017 "Future Energy ".

The forum was held by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly with the United Nations’ regional commissions and organizations, International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Energy Charter and other partners. The reports and discussions were in four key areas: "Renewable Energy", "Energy Efficiency", "Energy Modernization" and "Regional Energy Cooperation".

The session "Sustainable Cities" was held within the framework of the "Energy Efficiency", where the information of the "Mayors Agreement" initiative was presented. Through the development and implementation of sustainable energy development plans, the project involves local and regional authorities with the purpose of increasing energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources in their territory.

The Forum presents international experience on energy saving technologies, reduced emissions from power plants, ways to introduce renewable energy sources, improvements in energy efficiency, and opportunities for regional cooperation in the energy sector. Within the framework of the CAMP4ASB project, the topics of reports and discussions are key to addressing the problems associated with climate change, as energy is the main source of greenhouse gas emissions. Hopefully, the material received at the Forum will contribute to the implementation of the project in Central Asian region.
