Awarding  journalists within the UzWaterAware project

TASHKENT. On May 3, for the first time, CAREC took part in the ceremony of the XIII Uzbekistan National Award “Oltin Kalam” (Golden Pen) for journalists. CAREC awarded three winners in special nominations in the framework of the UzWaterAware project (Raising Awareness and Partnership for Sustainable Water and Environmental Development in Uzbekistan), funded by the European Union.

The National Award for Journalism is held every year on the World Press Freedom Day. One of the  UzWaterAware project goals is to strengthen the potential of the media and provide tools and techniques for journalists to improve information coverage, the effectiveness of raising awareness among the population about water and environment. In this regard, this year, three nominations for the coverage of water and environmental issues were initiated within the UzWaterAware project.

 All journalists, who sent their works for participation, prepared the materials with all responsibility and talent. The following winners were chosen from the submitted works:

Mr Esimkan Kanaatov, Informational Agency of Karakalpakstan, for “The best photo material on water and environmental issues”;

Mr Eldar Mudarisov, Uzbekistan Today, for “The best article on water and environmental issues in online media”; and

Ms Tatyana Petrenko, Economic Review, for “The best article on water and environmental issues in printed media”.

CAREC mission is to assist the Central Asian countries in solving their national and regional issues in the field of environmental protection, and participation in this award contributes to its achievement.




The UzWaterAware project is implemented by CAREC with the support of the European Union during the period 2016-2019. The overall objective of the project is to sensitise and generate a greater degree of awareness on the strategic importance of water saving, water conservation and environmental protection under the conditions of climate change.
