Initiative of national consultations of public environmental organizations of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan

The process of national consultations of public environmental organizations has been started in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Such processes will start in other CA countries in order to support joint efforts of non-governmental organizations on nature protection and sustainable development issues.

National consultations in the countries are aimed to unify the voice of environmental organizations and to prepare a joint declaration for the Central Asian Environmental Forum which will take place in Tashkent in 2018.

The Forum opens doors for NGOs to claim current challenges and difficulties in the region which they face during their work.

Main thematic directions of the Forum – 2018 will be:

- Renewable energy and energy efficiency;

- Integrated management of domestic solid waste;

- Biodiversity conservation and development of network of nature protected areas;

- Water diplomacy: regional cooperation in water resource management.

National consultations will assist NGOs to build dialogue inside of their community, to formulate a joint vision of environmental challenges and to prepare a joint statement to national state bodies. As far as possible, CAREC will support consultations and invite interested organizations to come forward as a facilitator of the consultation process in each country.

At the moment, first national consultations with representatives of environmental non-governmental organizations took place in Astana (Kazakhstan) and Ashgabat (Turkmenistan). Agenda is available here and list of participants is available here. The process of consultation right now is going via online communication. The first draft of a joint statement from representatives of NGO of Kazakhstan is prepared. The position of facilitator on volunteer basis among NGO is still available.
