The 4th meeting of the regional organizations of Central Asia

March 16-17, 2017, CAREC will host a regular meeting of the regional organizations, involved in the issues of sustainable development and water management in Central Asia.

The meeting is dedicated to the issues of cooperation on implementation of regional initiatives in the field of environmental protection and achievement of sustainable development goals in the Central Asian region. It is organized within the framework of «Strengthening capacities in sustainable water management at regional, national and catchment levels» with the support of the GIZ "Transboundary water management in Central Asia” programme.

Participants

Regional organizations: International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (ED IFAS), Scientific-Information Center of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission of the Central Asia (SIC ICWC), Secretariat of the Interstate Commission for Sustainable Development (ICSD), Regional Centre of Hydrology (RCH), basin water management organization (BWO) «Syrdaria» и BWO «Amudaria», Regional mountain centre of CA (RMC CA), Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE)

International organization: German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the World Bank, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

During the meeting, participants will discuss the issues of the involvement into “Environment and sustainable development” process in Central Asia. Agenda also includes issues on  Central-Asian Environmental Forum in Ashgabat on June 5-7 and celebration of the 25th anniversary of ICWC.

It is expected that this meeting will enable the transition to a new level of cooperation in the region: from solution through the shaping of “Environment and sustainable development” process in long-term perspective.
