Dushanbe: Intersectoral working group on water-energy-food nexus

Intersectoral working group on water-energy-food nexus (WEF Nexus) issues will act on the base of existing National commission on irrigation and drainage of the Republic of Tajikistan. Such decision was highlighted during the third meeting of the National Commission.


The National Commission on irrigation and drainage of the Republic of Tajikistan was established in 2015 by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. One of its goals is to attract investment resources for sustainable economic development of the country. Members of the National Commission on irrigation and drainage are represented by 16 governmental bodies and academia.

Work of the National Commission on irrigation and drainage of the Republic of Tajikistan was launched in the frame of the water sector reform programme in Tajikistan. Within a short period of time, it was able to attract for cooperation international partners such as Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Finnish Environment Institute.

National Commission on irrigation is also an active member of The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID). Its main mission is to promote ‘Sustainable agriculture water management’ to achieve ‘Water secure world free of poverty and hunger through sustainable rural development’ in the world.

Work of the National commission of irrigation and drainage displayed in the international digest of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, distributed in 177 countries around the world.
