RESILAND Tajikistan Sub-Grant Allocation Committee Meeting Held in Dushanbe

On August 21, 2026, a meeting of the Sub-Grant Allocation Committee of the “Tajikistan Resilient Landscapes Restoration Project” (RESILAND Tajikistan) was held in Dushanbe.

The meeting was attended by members of the Sub-Grant Allocation Committee representing the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance, the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management, and the Agency for Forestry. Representatives of the target districts of Sughd Region, Khatlon Region, and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region joined the meeting online.

The meeting was opened by M. Kh. Junaydzoda, Director of the Center for Implementation of Investment Projects under the Committee for Environmental Protection and Chair of the Sub-Grant Allocation Committee.

Participants discussed the results of RESILAND Tajikistan implementation and further measures to support local communities, promote sustainable natural resource management, restore landscapes, and advance rural development.

Under RESILAND Tajikistan, 64 Pasture User Unions (PUUs), 187 Joint Forest User Groups (JFUGs), and 750 Common Interest Groups (CIGs) have been established. Their activities focus on forest and pasture restoration, reducing land degradation, improving the sustainable use of natural resources, and creating new livelihood opportunities for local communities.

The meeting also reviewed results in the areas of seed production and pasture productivity. In 2026, high-quality and climate-resilient forage crops, including alfalfa, barley, and maize, were planted across a total area of 420 hectares in Shahritus and Qabodiyon districts of Khatlon Region, as well as Ayni District and Panjakent City of Sughd Region.

In B. Gafurov District of Sughd Region, 4,000 kg of seeds were procured to support the production of pasture plant seeds. The seeds were used to establish plantations of saxaul, izen, chogon, and keyreuk across 200 hectares. The area was also protected by 6.8 km of fencing.

Participants also discussed the importance of more careful selection of land plots for forest restoration and the need to test the quality and germination capacity of seeds before planting. These proposals were supported by the members of the Committee.

An important part of the meeting was the consideration of new sub-projects aimed at improving conditions for local communities. The proposed support includes agricultural and specialized machinery, including tractors, trailers, ploughs, mini-tractors, walk-behind tractors, mowers, sprayers, front loaders, and wheeled excavators.

This equipment will enable local groups to carry out pasture restoration and maintenance, improve the meliorative condition of land, clean canals and collector-drainage systems, increase agricultural productivity, and implement other essential activities.

Following the meeting, the Committee approved proposals to provide target PUUs and CIGs with agricultural and specialized machinery and approved the procurement of pipes of various diameters to improve the meliorative condition of land, provide water for livestock watering, and support the irrigation of agricultural areas.

The decisions adopted are aimed at ensuring that project results continue to provide practical benefits to local communities beyond the completion of individual project activities, contributing to the sustainable use of natural resources, agricultural development, and increased resilience of rural areas to climate change.
