Garden of Abundance — A Step Towards a Greener Future. RESILAND Tajikistan

Publication date: 23 October 2026

Tajikistan continues to implement initiatives aimed at environmental protection, the restoration of unused land, and the expansion of green spaces. Supported by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and aligned with the environmental initiatives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, these efforts promote the sustainable use of natural resources, the development of horticulture, and a healthier environment for present and future generations.

As part of these efforts, representatives of the Center for the Implementation of Investment Projects under the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, together with representatives of the World Bank, visited Ayni District in Sughd Region. The purpose of the visit was to review the results of activities aimed at restoring unused land and developing horticulture under the Tajikistan Resilient Landscapes Restoration Project (RESILAND Tajikistan).

One of the sites visited was Bogi Barakat (“Garden of Abundance”), located in Pokhut village, Rarz rural jamoat. Established under RESILAND Tajikistan, the orchard demonstrates practical efforts to restore land and promote horticultural development.

The 100-hectare site has been planted with fruit trees, including apple, apricot, cherry plum, and almond, as well as acacia trees.

To improve water-use efficiency and provide the plants with adequate moisture, a drip irrigation system has been installed. This system delivers water directly to the plants’ root zones, reduces water losses, and supports healthy tree growth and development.

To ensure a regular water supply for irrigation, a 9-kilometre irrigation pipeline has been constructed from the Tagobi Fatmevut area to the orchard. The development of reliable irrigation infrastructure and the use of modern irrigation methods are important for maintaining young trees and supporting the long-term sustainability of the orchard. To ensure irrigation of the orchard, a polyethylene pipeline has been installed to supply water to an area of 5 hectares. The site has been planted with saplings of various apple varieties, as well as a local variety of cherry plum.

Restoring unused land, establishing new orchards, and introducing water-efficient irrigation technologies are important elements of sustainable natural resource management.

These measures contribute to environmental improvement, the expansion of green spaces, and more sustainable rural development.

The Garden of Abundance in Pokhut village and the completed works in Tagobi Fatmevut demonstrate a practical approach to land restoration and horticultural development. Continued efforts of this kind can contribute to environmental sustainability and the long-term development of Ayni District.
