A regional practical training dedicated to improving the quality assurance process for national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories in Central Asian countries through a peer review mechanism began on December 8, 2025, in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The event is organized within the framework of the Regional Climate Action Transparency Hub for Central Asia (ReCATH), implemented by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) with the support of the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) and with the technical assistance of the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHGMI).
The main objective of the training is to strengthen the capacity of national experts in applying structured peer-review procedures, which constitute an essential component of Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) systems under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) of the Paris Agreement.
The training program includes introductory sessions, practical exercises on modeling the review process for individual sections of national inventories, discussion of opportunities for creating a regional peer review mechanism, and preparation of draft formulations for updated national QA/QC plans.
The outcomes of the training are expected to improve the quality of national GHG inventories, enhance regional cooperation, and help establish a sustainable and formalized peer-review process that will support the preparation of upcoming Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR2).
