The online regional meeting "NGOs of Central Asia: participation in international, regional and national climate initiatives" was held on the 30th of July 2020. This event was organized by the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) in cooperation with the Climate Action Network in Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia (CAN EECCA) and the Climate Network of NGOs in Central Asia. The meeting was held within the "Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin" (#CAMP4ASB) with the financial support of the World Bank.

The meeting was attended by 27 people, including representatives of regional climate networks, civil society organizations and media representatives. At the meeting, the information on key climate forums was presented, including the online Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC 2020, which is scheduled for 19-23 October 2020), the EECCA CAN General Assembly in Bishkek (April 2021) and the Conference of the Parties to the Climate Agreements in Glasgow (COP-26, July and November 2021). The plans for public participation in these forums were also discussed, as well as climate action plans for the Regional Network of Civil Society Organizations supported by the CAMP4ASB project.

CAREC Executive Director Zafar Makhmudov noted in his speech that civil society organizations' participation in addressing climate issues "guarantees the transparency of organizations, the commitment of countries, the effectiveness of the activities, and the opportunity of implementing climate action at the level of communities and each individual citizen." He also suggested regularly holding regional online discussions of civil society organizations with the support of CAREC.
