On February 06, 2024 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, the Regional Climate Action Transparency Hub (ReCATH) project team participated in the kick-off meeting of the new project "Strengthening Turkmenistan's Capacity to Comply with the Enhanced Transparency Framework under the Paris Agreement".
The workshop, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), was designed to support Turkmenistan in establishing robust monitoring systems for climate change reporting.
The event brought together leading climate experts, representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, and the academic community. The participants contributed significantly to the discussion and analysis of key aspects of the project submitted under the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and developed strategies for successful implementation of the proposed initiatives. Also during the workshop, participants discussed key aspects of the project and gathered ideas and opportunities for its successful implementation.
The workshop started with welcoming remarks by the Ministry of Environment of Turkmenistan and FAO, after which the participants reviewed Turkmenistan's national climate change strategies and initiatives.
The workshop, moderated by Rovshan Saparmamedov from FAO, introduced participants to the opportunities and challenges associated with the project and stimulated the exchange of ideas and opinions. The event discussed national climate change adaptation strategies, GEF programmatic processes and next steps, opportunities for potential synergies with other transparency initiatives in the region, and project components and synergies with other initiatives in the region.
