The development of the course "Environmental Epidemiology" in the system of the Ministry of Health and the State Committee for Ecology of Uzbekistan has been completed

On March 2018, the Tashkent Institute for Advanced Medical Education under the Ministry of Health jointly with the State Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan, have completed the development and introduction of the course "Environmental Epidemiology".

Such educational course was developed for the first time in Uzbekistan. The project was implemented in the period 2017-2018 by CAREC within the Environment and Health Programme with the active involvement of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, the State Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection, Tashkent Institute for Advanced Medical Education, and Tashkent Medical Academy (TMA). Tashkent Institute for Advanced Medical Education will launch the course with a further introduction to the learning process in training and retraining of the specialists of the Ministry of Health, the State Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection, TMA and other specialised agencies.

СAREC Environment and Health Programme Manager Irina Bekmirzaeva noted that the implemented project initiated the development of active cooperation between healthcare and environmentalists in Uzbekistan. "Instructors of Tashkent Institute for Advanced Medical Education will read lectures on Environmental Epidemiology, on the subject of this lectures a memorandum of understanding and cooperation will be concluded in March of this year", she added. Upon the end of the project, the sides have exchanged views and proposals on possible areas of cooperation, such as chemical safety, biological safety, chemical assessment of water resources, transboundary water cooperation, management of medical waste and air pollution.

The issues of prevention the ecological problems that damage the state of the environment, health and gene pool of the population were reflected in the new Strategy of Action of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021. The course "Environmental Epidemiology" was prepared within the framework of this strategy. Currently, the educational course is successfully introduced in Uzbekistan, and it is planned to transfer experience, knowledge and methodology to other countries of Central Asia.
