Since assuming the position of Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), Batyr Mamedov has been undertaking his first working visit to Turkmenistan.
On the first day of the visit to Ashgabat, working meetings were held with the Bayrammurad Durdyev, Member of the Regional Advisory Committee of the World Bank’s “Resilient Landscapes in Central Asia (RESILAND CA+)” programme from Turkmenistan, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, as well as with Muhammed Durikov, Director of the Scientific Information Centre of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (SIC ICSD IFAS).
The meetings took place at the CAREC project office in Turkmenistan with the participation of the Office Director, Mergen Kepbanov. During the discussions, the parties addressed priority areas of cooperation, current working issues, and opportunities for expanding interaction within the framework of regional environmental and water initiatives.
Furthermore, within the framework of the visit, Batyr Mamedov, Executive Director of CAREC, signed a grant agreement online between CAREC and the World Bank for the implementation of the joint One Health programme.
The signing of this agreement opens new opportunities for implementing projects aimed at increasing the region’s resilience to emergencies in the following areas:
- Prevention and control of zoonotic diseases (diseases transmitted from animals to humans);
- Combating antimicrobial resistance;
- Ensuring food safety;
- Improving animal health and welfare;
- Conserving biodiversity and ecosystem health;
- Addressing climate change issues that affect human and animal health.
The working visit of the Executive Director of CAREC to Turkmenistan will continue in the coming days with a number of planned meetings and events.
