National Consultation Meeting with project partners of  «Resource Efficiency in Agri-food Production and Processing (REAP)»


15 December 2020, Dushanbe – REAP project, funded by the European Union SWITCH ASIA II program and co-funded by partner organizations, organized a National Consultation Meeting with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan as a key ministry, as well as representatives of other interested ministries and agencies of the country, the private sector, consulting organizations and project representatives on December 15, 2020. The event will take place at the Hilton Dushanbe hotel with simultaneous online connection for international partners.

The main purpose of the meeting is to inform national partners and other stakeholders about the project, as well as to discuss joint cooperation and coordination of the project activities in Tajikistan, that will be implemented until March 2024.

Meeting participants will be presented with the main tasks for the project implementation in Tajikistan, namely:

establishment of a project coordination group among interested stakeholders;

·         promotion of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) practices in agricultural production and processing throughout the supply chain;

·         capacity building of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to identify and apply innovative solutions to the challenges of the scarcity of natural resources and build systems to integrate SCP practices and supply chains;

·         creating an enabling environment through sectorial clusters and incentives;

·         achieving national development strategies

The representatives of the project consortium in Tajikistan will emphasize in their presentation that SCP practices would focus on improving resource efficiency use in the production and processing of agricultural, as well as applying new approaches to address the lack of resources. In particular, the issues like water use, production losses, energy efficiency, etc. will be covered. Cluster support will be aimed at improving the competitiveness of local businesses.

REAP (Resource Efficiency in Agri-food Production and Processing) project is implemented by an international consortium, led by The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (Kazakhstan) and including five Partners: National Association of Small and Medium Business of Tajikistan (NASMB), Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan (CCIU), adelphi Research gGmbH, Association for the Promotion of Recycling and Environmental Protection in Austria (AREC), STENUM Asia Sustainable Development Society (STENUM Asia), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

The overall goal of the project is to promote sustainable consumption and production (SCP) practices in the agri-food and processing industries in Central Asia along the entire supply chain in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The four-year project started in March 2020 and will continue until 2024.
