Glasgow, Great Britain, November 9, 2021 – The side-event “Green Economy Strategy” took place both online and offline in the Central Asia Pavilion.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan to discuss milestones of the country’s transition to the green economy.
In his welcome speech, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Ilhom Norkulov praised the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia for contribution to organizing the COP26 events at the joined Pavilion “Central Asia: 5 countries – 1 region – 1 voice”. He noticed that for the first-time countries of Central Asia come together and participate in this global environmental movement. Ilhom Norkulov expressed hope for having a lot of positive results.
All speakers underlined the historic moment of displaying Central Asia as a single region united under the motto “5 countries – 1 region – 1 voice”.
The participants of the event discussed the progress of Uzbekistan on its way toward green development, informed about the actions taken within “green” strategies, concepts of the country.
Experts noted that Uzbekistan is actively working to balance its population and urbanization following green development. For example, the country promotes a circular economy, actively attracts green investments, constructs environmentally friendly housing, develops renewable sources of energy.
The side-event “Green Economy Strategy” took place at Central Asia Pavilion organized by CAREC in cooperation with EC IFAS and IGTIPC under financial support of the World Bank, OSCE, ERG, FAO and UNDP.
