COP26. Regional Climate Action Transparency Hub in Central Asia Established

Glasgow, UK, November 10, 2021 г. – Central Asia Pavilion hosts the side-event “First Steering Committee Meeting on Regional Climate Action Transparency Hub” in online and offline mode.

ICAT is launching technical support for the establishment and management of a Regional Climate Action Transparency Hub (ReCATH) in Central Asia. The Hub will adopt and implement a collaborative approach that brings together the five Central Asian States – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – and support technical experts and expert institutions in the region to build sustainable and comprehensive MRV/transparency systems.

ReCATH in Central Asia will provide technical support to Central Asia for transparency related to climate actions and policies based on country and regional priorities and needs with the aim of equipping the countries in the region with capacity to effectively assess the impacts of their climate policies and actions and fulfill their transparency commitments under international frameworks, in particular the Enhanced Transparency Framework of the Paris Agreement.

Agreement Signing Ceremony on Establishing ReCATH in Central Asia between Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) and Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) took place during the side-event.

In the end of the Ceremony, Henning Wuester, Director of the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT), highlighted the importance of this historic moment – consolidation of the countries of Central Asia.

According to CAREC Executive Director, Zafar Makhmudov, Central Asia needs regular and reliable information on the dynamics and forecasts of GHG emissions, impact of policies and measures taken by countries, climate risks, opportunities and measures to reduce GHG emissions, and the support in implementing measures to combat climate change. ReCATH in Central Asia aims to meet these needs.

Central Asia Pavilion is organized by CAREC in cooperation with EC IFAS and IGTIPC under financial support of the World Bank, OSCE, ERG, FAO and UNDP.
