CAREC Executive Director visits Kyrgyzstan

 Zafar Makhmudov, Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), paid a working visit to Kyrgyzstan at the end of June 2024.

During the working visit, Zafar Makhmudov held several meetings on cooperation with donor and government organizations in Kyrgyzstan.

The Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic discussed the regional forum "Adaptation to the challenges of climate change in Central Asia through the development of renewable energy sources, green technologies and cooperation". As a result, the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic agreed to support this forum and discuss its concept and dates. Zafar Makhmudov also addressed the issue of holding a regional forum on renewable energy in Kyrgyzstan with USAID. As a result of the meeting, mutual understanding was reached in promoting regional activities on climate change, sustainable use of natural resources and socio-economic development of Central Asian countries.

At the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic (MNRETS) Asel Raimkulova, issues of further cooperation between CAREC and MEDRET, the results of CACCC - 2024, preparations for UNFCCC COP-29, which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, were discussed.

During the meeting with the Director of the Center for Climate Finance under the Cabinet of Ministers Adilet Amantaev, the topics of climate finance in Kyrgyzstan and the organization of the process of exchange of experience between the countries of Central Asia were considered.

CAREC Executive Director Zafar Makhmudov also got acquainted with the process of work on the rehabilitation canals and hydraulic structures of the pilot WUAs Ak-Chii and WUA Ta-Bek within the framework of the regional project “Increasing Economic Independence and Improving the Status of women in Central Asia through Access to Irrigation Water and Infrastructure”.

The project is implemented by CAREC with the financial support of the international charitable foundation “The Coca-Cola Foundation”.

The regional project “Increasing Economic Independence and Improving the Status of women in Central Asia through Access to Irrigation Water and Infrastructure” covers Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. In Kyrgyzstan, the project is being implemented by the CAREC branch in the Kyrgyz Republic.
