From May 28 to June 2, Almaty hosted a regional training on climate modelling, organized within the framework of the Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin Program (CAMP4ASB).
The workshop targeted specialists of the hydrometeorological agencies and research institutes from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and aimed at strengthening their capacities for processing climate data and developing long-term projections.

The training program covered methods of processing and modelling of global and regional climate datasets. Theoretical and practical classes provided the participants with skills in using global climate datasets for processing, visualization analysis, as well as forecasting of future climatic parameters, including analysis of system deviations in model simulations.
It is expected that the participating specialists will deploy acquired skills and knowledge for developing long-term projections, which will be used in further studies for assessment of hydrological responses in selected river basins. These studies will be supervised by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).
The climate modelling training is a part of wider capacity building program led by the CAMP4ASB project for strengthening the expert community in Central Asia in developing climate projections and impacts assessments on selected territories and ecosystems.
Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin or CAMP4ASB are implemented by CAREC and financed by the World Bank. The project aims to enhance regionally coordinated access to improved climate change knowledge services for key stakeholders (e.g., policymakers, communities, and civil society) in participating Central Asian countries as well as to increased investments and capacity building that, combined, will address climate challenges common to these countries.CAMP4ASB is implemented in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan during the period from 2016 to 2021.
