TASHKENT. On May 17 the trilateral memorandum was signed between CAREC Branch in Uzbekistan, the In-Service Training Centre for Journalists and NGO “Suvchi”. The document was signed by the Director of CAREC Branch in Uzbekistan Ms Shakhnoza Umarova, the Director of Training Centre Ms Gulnara Babadjanova and the Chairman of the Board of Director of “Suvchi” Mr Tokhir Majidov.
The agreement gives an additional platform for effective cooperation and mutual support in implementing joint projects and events, aimed at enriching the environmental knowledge and skills for representatives of mass media for further use in raising the awareness of population. Within the memorandum and the roadmap, it is planned to conduct informational and educational trainings for local media representatives in the regions of Uzbekistan to increase their knowledge in the field of ecology and water resources, as well as to expand their potential and tools through the use of modern means of communication and multimedia technologies.
Also, for ensuring the sustainability of knowledge, it is planned to conduct a training for trainers following the results of educational activities in the regions of Uzbekistan. The target audience of these trainings will be journalists from all regions of the country, as well as representatives of the press services of state organizations. Among other tasks of the organizations in the framework of this memorandum is to change the environmental culture of the population, to develop and create methodological materials and other printed publications on water, ecology and environmental protection in the context of global climate change.
Most of the projects identified in the memorandum and roadmap for 2018 and 2019 will be implemented within UzWaterAware project funded by the European Union, with the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan as a national partner.
The UzWaterAware project is implemented by CAREC with the support of the European Union during the period 2016-2019. The overall objective of the project is to sensitise and generate a greater degree of awareness on the strategic importance of water saving, water conservation and environmental protection under the conditions of climate change.
