Summary

Natural hazards in the region are often transboundary in nature, and their impacts are being exacerbated by climate change. Each country is interested not only in reducing disaster and emergency risks within its own territory, but also in preventing and mitigating the consequences of emergencies originating in neighboring countries.

At the current stage, the key priority is to strengthen coordination among the relevant government authorities of participating countries, identify priority risks, and initiate joint efforts to prevent disasters and minimize their impacts.

Recall, from June 24 to 26, representatives of the Central Asian countries will gather in the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic to discuss joint solutions for reducing mudflow and flood risks, improving natural hazard monitoring systems, and strengthening regional cooperation in the context of climate change.

The Regional Dialogue, “Harmonizing Policies, Developing a Roadmap and Digital Tools for Coordinated Joint Efforts,” will be held under the Central Asia Resilient Landscapes Restoration Program (RESILAND CA+) supported by the World Bank. The event is organized by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).
