Workshop on assessing benefits of regional cooperation

On January 25-26, 2017, Almaty will host a workshop in the framework of CAREC assessment of Regional Water Cooperation in Central Asia.

The workshop will contribute to the understanding of the possibilities of cooperation in the field of transboundary waters, promoting partnership for water resources management as a beneficial process for countries based on the priorities and strategies of each country.

The seminar will be attended by representatives of national ministries and environmental protection agencies as well as water resources, economy, energy and emergency situations agencies along with the representatives of regional organizations of Central Asian countries, CAREC and international experts.

Objectives:

- Enhance mutual understanding of country priorities as they relate to transboundary water resources and potential opportunities of cooperation, and risks that may result from non-cooperation, with a view to prospectively improve decision-making

- Identify and discuss national and regional actions with mutually advantageous potential, and seek to quantify the order of magnitude of potential benefits

The seminar will focus on the national reports on the priorities and plans of the Central Asian countries, which relate to transboundary water resources, as well as possible scenarios in the region.
