Ahead of the CACCC-2026 and RES: a Series of Webinars and In-Person Training for Central Asian Mass Media

Publication date: 21 April 2026

On April 15–16, a series of thematic webinars were held as part of a Climate Media Lab, culminating in an in-person training on April 21 in Astana.

Sessions opened with aligning participants’ expectations and introducing the objectives of RES-2026 and CACCC-2026, including its regional context. Experts shared practical insights, including a One Health case study based on Lake Karakol, and highlighted emerging tools for journalists, from ESG reporting to the use of AI-driven solutions in climate storytelling.

The second day of the Media Lab focused on advancing a science-based understanding of climate change and the role of Central Asia in the global climate agenda. Participants engaged with evidence-based perspectives on climate trends, discussed evolving media coverage, and explored approaches to producing high-quality climate content—ranging from structuring stories to working effectively with expert sources. The sessions also addressed strategic regional climate initiatives and expectations for upcoming international climate negotiations.

The in-person training in Astana provided an opportunity to translate knowledge into practice. The agenda covered key regional challenges, including land degradation, water-energy cooperation, and climate-related energy issues, alongside the integration of ESG principles into reporting. Participants developed their own story ideas, strengthened skills in field planning, and learned how to communicate complex climate data more effectively. The program concluded with reflections, peer exchange with alumni, and the awarding of certificates.
