Strengthening coordination of the Regional Network of Civil Society Organizations work

A conference called “Strengthening the coordination of the Regional Network of Civil Society Organizations work” was held online on July 30, 2020.

This event was organized by the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) in cooperation with the Regional Network of Civil Society Organizations within the framework of Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin (CAMP4ASB) with the financial support of the World Bank.

The conference was aimed at strengthening regional coordination of the Regional Network of Civil Society Organizations work.

At the beginning of the conference, Irina Bekmirzaeva, coordinator of the CAMP4ASB project “Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin”, emphasized the main aspects of the Regional Network of Civil Society Organizations work, and also outlined the main goals of the conference “Strengthening the coordination of the Regional Network of Civil Society Organizations work”.

“The last meeting “NGOs of Central Asia: Participation in International, Regional and National Climate Initiatives” was held by the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) jointly with the Climate Network of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (CAN EECCA) and the Regional Climate Network of NGOs of Central Asia ... At the meeting, the significant work of the Regional NGOs became apparent. So, as the online event had passed, it was decided to hold monthly meetings in order to exchange information between members of the Regional Network of Civil Society Organizations”, - said Irina Bekmirzaeva.

Countries’ current activity and future goals

The first stage of the conference was about the network's current activities and plans from representatives of the Regional Network's countries.

The conference was opened by Nurzat Abdurasulova, representative of the Climate Network of Kyrgyzstan. The speaker touched upon the work on building an active civil society in the field of climate change in Kyrgyzstan.

The next speaker was Yuri Skochilov, a representative of the Climate Network of Tajikistan, who presented work on the network in his country. His presentation introduced the event’s participants to new climate information platforms such as Neruisabz and CACIP.

About CACCC-2020

The topic of the CACCC-2020 was also brought up at the online event.

We remind you that the third Central Asian Conference on Climate Change (CACCC-2020) will be online and held on October 19-23, 2020. The conference is organized within the Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin (CAMP4ASB) and is a continuation of the World Bank's initiative.

The purpose of the online conference is to strengthen the regional dialogue on climate change and sustainable development by exchanging information and knowledge in Central Asia. Another objective of the conference is to raise awareness among the Central Asian countries about the matters related to climate change and the pandemic (COVID-19).

About COP-26

The conference's final part was a discussion of the preparation for the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the Framework Conference on Climate Change.

The UN Climate Change Conference COP-26 has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This decision was made by the COP Bureau of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) together with the UK and its Italian partners.

According to the update, COP-26 will be held on November 1-12, 2021, in Glasgow, UK.
