The Third Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC 2020) will be held online on October 19-23, 2020. The objective of the conference is to strengthen a regional dialogue on climate change and sustainable development through the information and knowledge exchange in Central Asia. You can get more detailed information on the CACCC-2020 here.

A series of our publications will be dedicated to the speakers and moderators of the upcoming event. And, today, we would like to introduce you to Saltanat Zhakenova. She will moderate the thematic session “Climate-related information and knowledge in Central Asia” of the third day of the CACCC 2020 on October 21, 2020.

Moderator

Saltanat Zhakenova is a Specialist on Climate Change of the World Bank-funded project “Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin” (CAMP4ASB). She has almost 20 years of experience in environmental management with a focus on Central Asian countries. Saltanat has been engaged in projects on mainstreaming the Water-Energy-Food Nexus, IWRM, climate change mitigation and adaptation, promotion of ecosystem-based approach, environmental monitoring and reporting, and support implementation of international environmental agreements and corporate social responsibility.

Saltanat has extensive regional experience in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders from the Government, Parliament, research and educational organizations, civil society, private sector and the UN system.

An ecologist by training, Saltanat has a background in economics from the State Academy of Management of Kazakhstan as well as experience with large-scale evaluations of training and project activities with a wide range of communication and organizational skills.

Climate  Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin or CAMP4ASB is implemented by CAREC and financed by the World Bank. Project aims to enhance regionally coordinated access to improved climate change knowledge services for key stakeholders (e.g., policy makers, communities, and civil society) in participating Central Asian countries as well as to increased investments and capacity building that, combined, will address climate challenges common to these countries.CAMP4ASB is implemented in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan during the period from 2016 to 2021.
