On 21 May 2026, an online meeting of national coordinators and members of the Central Asian Civil Society Climate Network was held to introduce the Network’s new Regional Coordinator and discuss the outcomes of the 8th Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2026).
During the meeting, the newly appointed Regional Coordinator of the Climate Network, Ms. Maral Sagynalieva, Chairperson of the Board of the Green Alliance of Kyrgyzstan, presented her vision for the further development of the Network. She emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation among civil society organizations, expanding youth engagement, and increasing the contribution of civil society to advancing the climate agenda in Central Asia.
In turn, Mr. Vladimir Grebnev, Regional Climate Change Specialist at the CAREC, presented the structure, key outcomes, and major achievements of CACCC-2026, which was held as part of the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana. The presentation highlighted the conference’s main thematic areas, key agreements reached, development of regional initiatives, and the engagement of international partners, government institutions, businesses, and civil society organizations.
Special attention during the discussion was given to role of civil society organizations in promoting climate justice, climate change adaptation, and strengthening regional cooperation. Representatives from Central Asian countries shared their feedback on CACCC-2026, as well as their proposals and expectations regarding the organization of the Conference in 2027.
The meeting was organized by Green Alliance of Kyrgyzstan and brought together representatives of civil society and academia from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
The Central Asian Civil Society Climate Network was established by CAREC under the World Bank CAMP4ASB project and is now functioning as an independent regional platform, demonstrating the sustainability and long-term impact of regional initiatives implemented in Central Asia.
