CAREC and the OSCE Discuss the Expansion of Joint Environmental Initiatives in Central Asia

Almaty – Kazakhstan – the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) – 26 November 2025 – the Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), Batyr Mammedov, held a working meeting with the Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, Ambassador Alexey Rogov.

The meeting focused on key areas of ongoing cooperation and provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on regional environmental development. Batyr Mammedov expressed CAREC’s sincere appreciation to the OSCE for its longstanding support, which has played a pivotal role in advancing environmental sustainability and strengthening the capacities of Central Asian countries.

As a prominent example of successful and enduring partnership, the Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development (CALP) was highlighted. Launched in 2010 in close collaboration with the OSCE, the programme aims to cultivate a new generation of environmental leaders in the region and brings together professionals from government, private sector, and civil society.

The discussion also explored opportunities to expand cooperation across CAREC’s broader portfolio of initiatives, including projects addressing climate change, water resources management, and environmental education. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing joint efforts to promote sustainable development and enhance environmental security throughout Central Asia.
