On 26 March 2026, a working meeting was held at the Turkmenistan Project Office of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) with representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), marking an important step towards the launch of a new joint project.
From the FAO side, the meeting was attended by Shebnem Gurbuz, Country Team Leader, Nil Darilmaz, Fiduciary Operations Support Specialist, as well as FAO representatives in Turkmenistan, Rovshen Saparmammedov and Yhlas Myradov. The CAREC Project Office was represented by Mergen Kepbanov, Director, Orazgul Isgenderova, Project Office Assistant, and Dovlet Jumagulyyev, National Expert of the Project Office.
The key focus of the discussion was the preparation for the implementation of a new joint CAREC–FAO project — “Catalyzing the Nature-Positive Transformation of the Agricultural Sector in Turkmenistan towards Enhanced Resilience to Climate Change.” During the meeting, FAO representatives presented an overview of the terms and approaches for the implementation of the initiative, which enabled the parties to align expectations and identify priority areas for cooperation.
The dialogue was held in a constructive and productive atmosphere, confirming the mutual interest of the parties in developing an effective partnership. The participants emphasized the importance of coordination at the initial stage, which lays a solid foundation for the successful implementation of the project.
