Bishkek, June 24, 2026 — From June 24 to 26, representatives of the Central Asian countries will gather in the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic to discuss joint solutions for reducing mudflow and flood risks, improving natural hazard monitoring systems, and strengthening regional cooperation in the context of climate change.
The Regional Dialogue, “Harmonizing Policies, Developing a Roadmap and Digital Tools for Coordinated Joint Efforts,” will be held under the Central Asia Resilient Landscapes Restoration Program (RESILAND CA+) supported by the World Bank. The event is organized by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).
The event will bring together representatives of government agencies, research institutions, and international development partners operating in the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, including the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Central Asia is among the regions most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Rising temperatures, land degradation, and the increasing frequency of mudflows, floods, and wildfires are having significant impacts on public safety, ecosystem resilience, and the region’s socio-economic development. According to World Bank estimates, annual economic losses from natural disasters in Central Asia amount to approximately US$10 billion.
Against this backdrop, there is an increasing need to develop joint mechanisms for the prevention of and response to natural hazards, many of which are transboundary in nature and affect several countries across the region.
One of the key topics of the meeting will be the discussion of the draft Regional Roadmap for Reducing Transboundary Mudflow and Flood Risks, including an investment plan for implementing priority actions. The document is being developed under the RESILAND CA+ Program in collaboration with the relevant government authorities of the Central Asian countries and is intended to strengthen regional coordination in disaster risk reduction and prevention.
Participants will also review modern digital tools for regional cooperation, including an online catalog of ongoing and forecast climate-induced transboundary disasters, the RESILAND CA+ Knowledge Portal, and a regional database designed to facilitate information exchange, promote the dissemination of good practices, and support data-driven decision-making.
Particular attention will be given to harmonizing landscape policies across Central Asian countries and strengthening cooperation in the application of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for sustainable landscape management. During the event, participants will also consider initiatives to establish a regional wildfire early warning system and strengthen mechanisms for coordinated responses to transboundary environmental hazards.
In addition, they will discuss opportunities for developing transboundary nature tourism, establishing a “Peace Park” at the junction of the borders of the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as promoting common approaches to biodiversity inventory and the conservation of key species and their habitats.
The outcomes of the Regional Dialogue are expected to strengthen cooperation among the countries of Central Asia, enhance the effectiveness of disaster prevention measures, promote sustainable natural resource management, and support the development of joint climate adaptation solutions across the region.

About the RESILAND CA+ Program
The Central Asia Resilient Landscapes Restoration Program (RESILAND CA+) is financed by the World Bank with support from the the Global Partnership for Sustainable and Resilient Landscapes (PROGREEN) and the Korea‑World Bank Partnership Facility (KWPF).
The Program brings together the RESILAND Kyrgyzstan, RESILAND Tajikistan, and RESILAND Uzbekistan projects, while promoting regional cooperation among the countries of Central Asia in sustainable landscape management, climate change adaptation, and disaster risk reduction.
The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) implements the regional component of the RESILAND projects in the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
