Publication date: 20 June 2025

As part of the implementation of the action plan of the RESILAND Tajikistan project, a working visit was held to the project districts of the Sughd region (state forestries) on June 12-16, 2025. The goal is to select the preparation of land for reforestation and the creation of forest and fruit plantations.

The working group, together with representatives of regional forestries, visited the districts of Ayni, Gorny Mastchokh, and the city of Penjikent.

Penjikent

A meeting was held with the management and specialists of the State Forestry Institution of Penjikent, the Forestry Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, during which the criteria for selecting land, seedlings of fruit, and forest trees were discussed, and current issues of implementing plans and activities planned for 2025-2026 were considered.

The working group conducted a survey of a number of sites to select land for planting seedlings in the fall of 2025 and spring of 2026, as well as to identify existing problems in the selected sites. In total, 302 hectares of land were selected as a result of the selection for planting forest and fruit trees.

Aini District

Plots of dehkan farms and state forestry lands were surveyed. The main attention was paid to issues of water supply, provision of seedlings, as well as technical preparation of sites for planting. Total allocated: 210 hectares.

Gorny Mastchokh District

Lands in the villages of Sabag, Pastigav, Pashtegav, and other settlements were surveyed. The working group identified suitable sites for reforestation work and recorded infrastructure and agrotechnical needs. Allocated: 480 hectares

Conclusion

As a result of fieldwork, the working group in the project districts of the Sughd region selected 992 hectares of land for planting seedlings. For each district, acts of site selection were drawn up and signed by the working group, which, in addition to project specialists, included heads and specialists of the district departments of the Forestry Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The work on selecting land plots is an important step in preparing for the creation of forest plantations for reforestation in the country for 2025-2026. In the near future, it is planned to implement practical measures for soil preparation, irrigation, fencing, and planting seedlings within the framework of the project.

The RESILAND Tajikistan project is aimed at the sustainable restoration of natural ecosystems and improving the standard of living of the rural population through the creation of fruit and forest plantations.
