Publication date: 09 July 2025

A working meeting on the priority areas of regional cooperation under the RESILAND CA+ project was held at the World Bank office in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on July 9, 2025.

The participants – delegation of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) led by the Executive Director Batyr Mammedov and Senior Environmental Specialist at the World Bank Asferachew Abate – also discussed the development of a regional action plan for implementing the regional components of the RESILAND project and strengthening CAREC’s role as a coordinating regional structure.

Particular attention was given to CAREC’s strategic engagement in upcoming high-level events, including the Conferences of the Parties (COP) to the UN Conventions on Desertification, Biodiversity, and Climate Change.

The preparation for the Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2026), with an emphasis on innovative approaches and expanding the resource base, was also a key discussion point.

The parties agreed to enhance collaboration, revisit approaches to organizing regional events, and increase the active involvement of Central Asian countries in advancing the regional agenda.

CAREC will continue to play a vital role in coordinating efforts for the implementation of RESILAND CA+ regional components and in building resilient ecosystem and institutional linkages among

 Central Asian countries.
