Almaty – Kazakhstan - 26 February 2026 - Batyr Mammedov, the Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) met with Clare Barrington, Senior Regional Infrastructure Adviser (Central Asia Development and Programme Team) at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and representatives of the British Embassy in Kazakhstan.
Clare Barrington expressed interest in strengthening coordination across the region on transboundary issues, climate risks, water-energy governance, and the nexus approach. She also informed participants about the launch of the UK Climate Programme initiative.
In turn, Batyr Mammedov presented an update on the active and comprehensive preparations for the upcoming Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC), which will be held as part of the Regional Environmental Summit (RES 2026) in Astana, Kazakhstan, in April 2026, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting with representatives of the British Embassy in Kazakhstan, it was noted with appreciation that the Central Asian Climate Information Portal (CACIP), developed by CAREC, is responding to numerous requests from international partners and users seeking up-to-date information on climate change, water resources, environmental governance, and broader environmental cooperation in the Central Asian region.
CAREC representatives also highlighted that the CACIP portal continues to expand, gradually integrating new knowledge platforms and products developed under CAREC’s major ongoing regional projects, as well as integrating AI tools and elements to further enhance its functionality.
