National Authorities discuss SCP Policy Solutions

On April 23 in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) and May 3 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), the REAP project held a National Authorities Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Policy Solutions. 

The event brought together representatives of various governmental bodies of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.  The event presented the results that the project has achieved in the countries, showed examples of implementation of SCP practices at enterprises, described the problems associated with the adoption of policy prototypes in the countries.

In the course of active discussion, the participants emphasized the importance of introducing a system of green certification of enterprises and establishing a coordinating body for the implementation of SCP policy. In addition, they made the following suggestions:

1.         Introduction of KPI system

2.         Involvement of foreign companies

3.         Allocation of soft loans, for enterprises with green certificate

4.         Carrying out research and development work together with international experts

5.         Monitoring of works in the field of energy efficiency

6.         Opening of regional branches of the coordinating body for implementation of SCP practices

The REAP project is implemented by an international consortium under financial support of the European Union. The consortium comprises the National Association of Small and Medium Businesses of Tajikistan (NAMSB), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan (CCIUz), the German Consulting Office adelphi, the Association for the Promotion of Recycling and Environmental Protection in Austria (AREC), STENUM Asia Sustainable Development Society (STENUM Asia), and the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The consortium is led by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).
