The first step to basin planning in the Aksy rayon of the Jalal-Abad oblast in Kyrgyzstan

On January 24, 2018, an introductory training on basin planning was held in the Small Basin Council of the Padysha-Ata (Padshaata) River, Jalolabad Oblast.

It was the first step in the development of the river basin plan according to CAREC and GiZ handbook “Five Steps to Basin Planning ", developed in 2014. It includes various topics i.e.: principles and systems of water resources management, legislation, principles for the development and implementation of basin plans and the role of basin councils.

The Padysha-Ata River SBC combines representatives of the district and rural administrations, the district water management department, forestry, sanitary-epidemiological stations and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, local deputies and entrepreneurs. The next basin planning training will be organized in February 2018.

The Small Basin Council (SBC) on the Padysha-Ata (Padshaata) River was established in autumn 2017 by the joint decision of the Department of Water Resources under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic and CAREC in the framework of the “Smart Waters” project, funded by USAID.
