Tashkent – July 9, 2025 – Deputies of the Committee on Environmental Protection of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held an official meeting with the Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), Batyr Mammedov, and CAREC Country Office Director in Uzbekistan, Nodirbek Rakhimjonov.в стране и регионе.
Deputies of the Legislative Chamber – Chairperson of the Committee on Environmental Protection, Khayrillo Gapporov, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee, Bakhtiyor Pulatov, and member of the Committee, Oybek Rakhimov, - discussed with the CAREC delegation the expansion of cooperation between CAREC and parliamentary structures, including support for sustainable development, environmental protection, and water resource management.
The CAREC Executive Director Batyr Mammedov presented the organization's plans, including the development of a new strategy for 2026–2031. He also informed participants about a recent meeting with Iskandar Kutbiddinov, Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Erkin Mukhiddinov, Director of the Forestry Agency, during which an agreement was reached to sign a contract under the RESILAND project.
As part of the RESILAND project, CAREC has expressed its willingness—at the request of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan—to support the development of two key legal documents: the Environmental Code and the Forestry Code of Uzbekistan.
Following the official part of the meeting, representatives of the Oliy Majlis organized a tour of the Parliament building for the CAREC delegation. During the guided visit, guests were introduced to the history of the building, photographs of the first convocation of Parliament, an exhibit of national awards, and foundational legal documents, including the draft Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The parties expressed mutual interest in strengthening cooperation and emphasized the importance of regular dialogue between CAREC and the parliamentary community of Uzbekistan to advance environmental and climate initiatives in the country and the region.
