OSCE Presented the RTEET Central Asia Initiative at the UNECE Sustainable Energy Week 2025

Publication date: 03 October 2025

Geneva, Switzerland – The Regional Task Force on Education for a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition (RTEET) was presented at the UNECE Sustainable Energy Week 2025, during the 34th Session of the Committee on Sustainable Energy on 2 October 2025. The session, entitled “Just Transition for Resilient and Carbon-Neutral Energy Systems in the ECE Region”, gathered policymakers, international organizations, and experts to exchange experiences on participatory governance, economic diversification, and financing for just energy transitions.

The Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE) introduced the RTEET Central Asia initiative, established in collaboration with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), as an important regional effort to strengthen education and workforce development for a future-ready renewable energy sector.

During the Panel on Participatory Governance, Emomali Mirzoev, Assistant Project Officer on Energy Security at the OSCE Secretariat, presented the key elements of the initiative. He outlined:

  • The objectives and collaborative approach of RTEET in Central Asia;
  • Findings of the Needs Assessment Report, which identified skills gaps and capacity needs in renewable energy education;
  • Next steps and recommendations for advancing curricula, capacity building, and human capital development in support of just and inclusive energy transitions.

The discussion emphasized that inclusive education and participatory governance are essential to ensuring that no community is left behind in the transition toward resilient and carbon-neutral energy systems. By embedding workforce development and regional cooperation into just transition strategies, RTEET demonstrates a forward-looking model that connects education, policy, and practice.

The OSCE’s contribution at the UNECE Sustainable Energy Week highlighted its role in supporting Central Asia’s energy transition, underlining the importance of preparing future generations with the skills and knowledge to drive sustainable change.
