National forum on climate change was held in Kyrgyzstan

On November 10, 2023, a National Climate change Forum was held in Kyrgyzstan on the eve of the 28th UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (UNFCCC COP-28).


At this important event, the problems of global climate change and the search for effective solutions, coordination of positions of ministries and departments of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with development partners and civil society institutions were discussed.

In addition, the public, government members and representatives of international organizations discussed the formation of a national position at the UNFCCC COP-28.

At the forum, the activities on Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the Concept of Carbon Neutrality by 2050 in Kyrgyzstan and the Plan for the implementation of NDC were presented. All these documents confirm the commitment of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic to the implementation of climate commitments and measures for adaptation and mitigation of climate change processes.




An increase in average temperature, a decrease in precipitation, frequent and severe droughts, an increased threat of natural disasters and other challenges do not cease to worry the public of the country. The forum participants discussed the current state of climate change in Kyrgyzstan and its impact on the environmental, social and economic development of the country. An important task of the forum is to develop strategies and action plans aimed at adapting to climate change and eliminating its consequences.

The Forum was a multisectoral unifying platform, where the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, deputies of the Kyrgyz Parliament, representatives of 7 ministries, non-governmental organizations, youth organizations and experts participated.

Panel sessions were held during the forum, where issues of further study of the problem of climate change were discussed and ideas and concrete proposals and solutions were proposed for the designation of Kyrgyzstan's position at the UNFCCC COP-28.

Special attention was also paid to the activities of the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia, which is working to unite the positions of the Central Asian countries at the UNFCCC COP-28 and the organization of the Pavilion of the Central Asian countries with the support of GIZ.
