Almaty hosted a round table «Towards Expo 2017»

December 9, 2016, Turan University in cooperation with the Association of Universities of Kazakhstan, within the framework of the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Kazakhstan's Independence organized a round table on the topic «Towards Expo 2017» in Almaty.

The main purpose was to discuss the challenges and prospects of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK) on the transition to “green” economy (GE) for the upcoming of the EXPO 2017. In the framework of the round table, CAREC presented its activities to promote the principles of GE in Central Asia (CA).

The round table was attended by the representatives of government agencies and public organizations of the environmental protection; academia, business. Students of Turan presented their projects on transport, challenges of legal regulation of “green” business and financial, social and environmental benefits of bioinnovation.

One of the priorities in the work of CAREC and CAREC Country Office in Kazakhstan is to facilitate the implementation of the principles of GE and green growth in the RK, as well as implementation of the Concept of transition to a low-carbon development and GE to comply with the interests of present and future generations. CAREC has made efforts to promote the principles of GE through its Programmes and Country Offices in CA.



The organisation is going to be a part of global international exhibition EXPO 2017 “Future Energy” within the special session on “Low-carbon development in CA for the promotion of further 15 years of experience of CAREC progress in the region. Perspectives of CA countries and possibilities for regional cooperation.” In the future, CAREC is planning to assist in promoting and implementing the principles of GE, through its projects.

As an outcome of the round table, the relations for future cooperation with Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov for CAREC Health and Environment Programme were established. It is also expected to sign a Memorandum on cooperation with the Turan University.
