TASHKENT, UZBEKISTAN - Today, in Tashkent, members of the Central Asian Network of Academic Societies (hereinafter – NAS) gathered to discuss new training modules for master's degree students on water diplomacy and rational use of water resources. The meeting was organized by the USAID’s1 Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment Activity (hereinafter – WAVE) in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (hereinafter – CAREC), and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
Thirty six participants from 18 universities and four international development programs reviewed the content of the modules and discussed the necessary steps for their subsequent integration into education curricula at Central Asian universities.
“The current environmental and climatic situation in the world suggests that water should be treated with care as a vital resource. In this context, the courses on water diplomacy and rational water use are relevant and necessary,” said Alisher Saidmukhtorov, Head of the International Law Department, Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
In addition, WAVE and CAREC presented the recently-launched Community of Practice platform to the NAS members. The platform is a networking and knowledge exchange site for Central Asian students, academics and water professionals. The modules discussed today will be featured on the platform along with other water-focused modules and curricula.
