CAREC Office in Tajikistan joined the program of activists for the protection of stray animals

Publication date: 20 January 2018

January 20, 2018, CAREC Branch in Tajikistan signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Initiative Group for the Protection of Stray Animals in Dushanbe.

The objective of the memorandum is to cooperate in the development and implementation of programs and projects in the field of environmental protection and safety in the Republic of Tajikistan, including stray animal care programs, restoration, and preservation of ecological balance in the urbanization process.

The Initiative Group for the Protection of Stray Animals was formed last year in response to series of animal abuse incidents. As a result, mayor's office stopped violations. Activists created at their own expenses a mini-shelter outside the city and proposed the city administration to select a site for it. The issue is under consideration.

It is expected that within the framework of cooperation CAREC and the Initiative Group will study the sanitary and epidemiological situation in terms of the growth of the population of stray cats and dogs in Dushanbe.
