Almaty, Kazakhstan, 26 July 2023 CAREC opens online registration for the 13th Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development (CALP)

The 13th CALP is scheduled to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from 18 to 22 September 2023. This year the online call for applications for the CALP will be open until 18 August 2023. The CALP will be organized in co-operation with the the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, the World Bank, High Level Dialogue Platform Secretariat Blue Peace Central Asia and Coca-Cola.

The 13th Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development (CALP) is a dynamic and interactive five-day leadership program designed to empower young professionals in Central Asia to actively engage in addressing national climate change priorities, fostering regional collaboration, and exploring climate financing mechanisms for sustainable development. Through a combination of expert lectures, interactive sessions, case studies, and networking opportunities, participants will develop leadership skills, enhance their understanding of climate change challenges, and contribute to practical solutions for sustainable development in the region.

The main objective of the 13th CAPL is to empower and inspire young professionals in Central Asia to become influential leaders in the field of environmental sustainability. By providing them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and networks, CALP aims to cultivate a new generation of change-makers who are equipped to address climate change challenges, promote sustainable development, and foster regional collaboration for a resilient and environmentally conscious future in Central Asia.

We welcome advanced young professionals between 20 and 35 years old from civil society organisations, public and academic sectors of the five Central Asian countries. All participants should have experience in at least 3 of the following areas: environmental protection, climate change, transition to carbon neutrality, green development, water resources management and sustainable development.

Participation in the programme is free of charge. Selection is on a competitive basis and for civil servants through nominations.

Thematic Directions:

The thematic focuses of CALP-2023 will be closely related to green development and green regeneration.

1.       Adaptation to climate change;

2.       Biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management;

3.       Sustainable energy and green technologies;

4.       Water Resources Management;

5.       Circular economy and waste management;

6.       Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems;

7.       The Role and Opportunities of Youth in Strengthening Regional Cooperation in Central Asia.

Principles:

1)      Think globally, act locally collaborate regionally!

2)      Transparency - an online system for registration, all countries are represented in the selection committee; the list of selected candidates is published publicly.

3)      Openness - partners from international organizations and programs, civil society organizations and the private sector will be given the opportunity to moderate thematic sessions.

Open online registration will be available from 26 July to 18 August 2023.
