Preparation for the UNFCCC COP28: Initiative of Kyrgyzstan

Publication date: 28 August 2023

In December this year, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP28) will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Participation in the Conference allows countries to present their investment capacity and participate in the World Leaders Summit and other UNFCCC COP28 events.

As a rule, more than 10,000 people participate in the activities of the Conference of the Parties. It is crucial to organize the united Central Asian pavilion in order not to get lost in this massive flow and to present our region for future environmental investments in the most advantageous way.

On August 18 of this year, at the initiative of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, a meeting was held with development partners. At this meeting, the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) presented the Concept of the Central Asia Pavilion at UNFCCC COP28. They also discussed the unification of the efforts of the Central Asian countries at COP 28, the regional statement of the Central Asian countries, the pavilion of the Central Asian countries, the general concept and possibilities of use by all countries and partners, financial assistance from donor organizations working in Kyrgyzstan.

The Joint Pavilion will provide a unique opportunity for Central Asian countries to demonstrate their role in the global climate process, prospects and existing needs for financing, technology and expertise at UNFCCC COP28. In addition, this is a unique opportunity to underline the high region's vulnerability to the world community

Following the meeting, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic officially appealed to development partners with a request to provide financial support in organizing a joint Pavilion of Central Asian countries at COP28 of the UNFCCC, which will become a platform for events of development partners and countries of the Central Asian region.
