UNFCCC COP28: How to Attract Investments for Sustainable Energy Transition?

Publication date: 02 December 2023

UN Secretary-General António Guterres stressed on Friday that the success of the Dubai conference will depend on the results of the so-called “Global Inventory”, during which countries will assess for the first-time progress in curbing global warming in areas such as reducing emissions, accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources, and increasing funding.

The countries of Central Asia are making significant efforts to decarbonize and diversify the energy sector to achieve these goals.  It will solve acute problems related to providing the population with affordable energy resources and reducing the anthropogenic impact on the environment.

At the same time, the sustainable and transit finance market contributes to the sustainable energy transition by providing funds for the implementation of projects that contribute to reducing the negative impact on the environment and creating the conditions for cleaner and more sustainable energy.

The side event “Attracting Investments for Sustainable Energy Transition and the Role of International Financial Organizations” discussed issues of attracting investment in projects related to the energy transition to identify best practices and opportunities for attracting investments in sustainable energy and increase the role of international financial organizations in achieving sustainable development goals and reducing environmental impact.

The side event took place on December 2, the Central Asia Pavilion, Dubai, UAE.

The event was organized within the framework of the GIZ Green Central Asia Initiative and CAREC.

The event was organized by the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), Non-profit joint stock company “International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects” IGTIPC), and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
