The team of the Water Initiatives Support Program (WIS) of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia gave a leadership lecture on the topic “Experience of CAREC in Promoting Water Diplomacy in the Region” at al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The Lecture brought together approximately 20 students, master's students, doctoral candidates, and faculty members of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
Participants had the opportunity to gain a more in-depth understanding of specific projects and initiatives implemented by CAREC within its activities. Successful practices and innovative approaches were discussed, demonstrating effective contributions to strengthening water diplomacy and water resource management in the region.
WIS Manager Tais Reznikova shared CAREC's experience and achievements in promoting water diplomacy. She presented CAREC's strategies and practical approaches, highlighting CAREC's role as a leading organization in enhancing international cooperation and sustainable water resource management in the region.
WIS Program Specialist Irina Yugay told the participants about the CAREC experience in establishing and coordinating the activities of the Community of Practice for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Central Asia (CoP4WASH CA). CoP4WASH CA serves as a platform for collaboration among academic, non-governmental, and private sectors, aimed at conducting applied research to improve access to clean water and sanitation in the region. The work of the community sparked keen interest among future hydrology specialists.
The lecture ended with an interactive game showcasing to the youth the significance of collaboration and collective effort in achieving common goals. Participants reflected on their experiences and unanimously concluded that only through uniting efforts and integrating nations can the complex developmental challenges faced by Central Asia be addressed.
At the end, the hydrology students tested their knowledge on a little quiz on water diplomacy.
