Three pre-conference sessions will be organized on April 2, right before the start of the Central Asia Climate Change Conference. The sessions will present key inputs to the respective introductory session. We are glad to present you the review of pre-conference events.

Pre-Conference Academic Event: Building professional capacities for effective water management and climate actions

The participants of the event will discuss current gaps and further needs for developing research and academic capacities and improving training curricula in water and natural resource management and application of WEF Nexus approach in Central Asia. The session will showcase existing opportunities in the region and beyond, as well as ways for cooperation between foreign and national training and research institutions, including knowledge exchange programs, curricula enhancements, regional training-of-trainers programs, development of innovative training materials, etc.

The event is organized by CAREC in cooperation and with the support of the World Bank’s projects CAMP4ASB and CAEWDP CA Knowledge Network (CAEWDP CAKN), USAID project “Smart Waters”, European Union project “Nexus Dialogue in Central Asia”, and Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers.

Cooperation for mainstreaming climate-resilient technologies in the sectors of energy, agriculture and water resources

As a result of this pre-conference session, it is expected that the objectives and areas of cooperation in the field of promoting locally based climate-sustainable technologies in the energy, agriculture and water sectors will be identified.

The main objective of the 2019 Central Asia Climate Change Conference is to promote cooperation and partnerships on climate adaptation and mitigation in Central Asia. The event also aims at fostering regional dialogue, knowledge and information exchange and improved decision making on climate change and help to build a climate resilient future.  This particular Pre-Conference session also aims at reaching the following three main objectives:

  • Inform about existing methodologies, tools and knowledge products on climate change and water management in the region, and while focusing on the gaps and needs to improve the farmers, local administrations  capacity;

  • Present good practices and opportunities on innovative technologies and practices, which proved to be sustainable and effective at the regional and local level;

  • Explore next steps for identifying objectives and areas of cooperation in the promotion of climate-sustainable investments in technologies in the sectors of energy, agriculture and water resources.

Pre-Conference Youth side event

The Pre-Conference Youth event aims at fostering regional dialogue on water management, climate change and the NEXUS approach among the regional youth groups and networks in Central Asia and enhancing the contribution of young people to green development.

The session meant to share Youth’s good practices and initiatives in the field of knowledge and information exchange, innovations, and green development in the region. As well as to explore the next steps and ways to strengthen Youth’s capacity on water management, climate change and green development in the Central Asian region.

It is expected that Pre-Conference Youth Event will make a valuable input into regional cooperation in Central Asia. In this relation, support of the Youth initiatives through the CALP, Master programs of TIIAME, DKU and other youth groups and networks help to ensure a comprehensive understanding of environmental and sustainable development issues for future decision makers on environmental issues in the region.
