Bishkek, June 26, 2026 — A three-day Regional Dialogue titled "Harmonizing Policies, Developing a Roadmap and Digital Tools to Coordinate Joint Efforts" concluded today in Bishkek, bringing together representatives of government agencies, the scientific community, international organizations, and development partners from across Central Asia. Participants discussed coordinated approaches to reducing climate risks, restoring degraded landscapes, promoting nature-based solutions, and strengthening regional cooperation.
The event was organized under the Central Asia Resilient Landscapes Restoration Program (RESILAND CA+) by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic in partnership with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).
One of the key outcomes of the dialogue was the review of the draft Regional Roadmap for Reducing Transboundary Mudflow and Flood Risks, including its accompanying Investment Plan. Participants took note of the draft as a foundation for further refinement and coordination of joint measures to reduce climate-related risks across Central Asia. They recommended continuing consultations with participating countries and identifying practical implementation mechanisms at both national and regional levels.
Participants also devoted significant attention to the digital transformation of climate risk management. Discussions focused on the establishment of a Regional Online Catalogue of Current and Forecast Climate-Induced Transboundary Disasters, the further development of the RESILAND CA+ Knowledge Portal, and the creation of a regional database on sustainable landscape management. Participants emphasized that modern digital tools would enhance the monitoring of natural processes, improve risk forecasting, and support evidence-based decision-making.
Another important topic was the harmonization of regional approaches to sustainable landscape management. Participants discussed the promotion of nature-based solutions, restoration of degraded lands, biodiversity conservation, forest fire prevention, and the strengthening of mechanisms for transboundary cooperation. They recommended continuing national consultation and approval processes for regional cooperation documents.
As part of the dialogue, participants were introduced to products developed under Kyrgyzstan's One Village One Product (OVOP) initiative. The presentation showcased examples of local value addition and sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural communities through the processing of locally produced goods.
Special attention was given to preparations for the Bishkek+25 International Summit, scheduled for 2027 within the framework of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions. Participants noted that the RESILAND CA+ Program will actively contribute to preparing the regional track of the summit, focusing on transboundary cooperation, sustainable mountain landscape management, and climate change adaptation.
The dialogue also explored the establishment of a regional research hub that would bring together specialized scientific institutions from Central Asian countries to collaborate on glaciology, hydrology, ecology, mountain ecosystem conservation, and strengthening the resilience of mountain communities.
Another promising area for future regional cooperation is the development of a regional brand for mountain products from Central Asia. The initiative is expected to promote mountain products in new markets, create sustainable income opportunities for local communities, and strengthen regional cooperation in the sustainable development of mountain areas.
At the conclusion of the Regional Dialogue, participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, promoting knowledge exchange, and jointly developing practical solutions aimed at reducing climate risks, enhancing landscape resilience, and advancing transboundary cooperation across Central Asia.
