Publication date: 29 November 2024

The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) and the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan (CEP RT) hosted the training workshop on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and the panel discussion on healthy urban living, utilizing social media engagement to encourage Dushanbe’s residents to adopt sustainable practices on November 27, 2024.

Funded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the initiative titled "Nature-based Solutions for Improved Urban Air Quality and Healthy Urban Living in Dushanbe" focused on promoting nature-based solutions backed by insights from a recent urban living assessment. This collaboration aims to connect government, civil and academia societies, and the donor community to drive positive change.

The Committee for Environmental Protection is leveraging social media for community involvement, with campaigns for tree planting and clean-up events inspiring local participation. Eco-bloggers are also raising awareness through initiatives like the 'Zero Waste Challenge,' demonstrating that everyday actions make a difference.

“Collaboration is key to our environmental initiatives. Partnering with activists and bloggers amplifies our message to the community,” said Gulrukhsor Tilloi, Head of the Center for Information, Ecology, Promotion and Computer Programming, Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

With 2024 declared the Year of Environmental Education, the initiative aims to raise awareness and meet Sustainable Development Goals, making Dushanbe a model for urban sustainability.
