
As part of the Resilient Landscape Restoration Project in the Kyrgyz Republic (KG RESILAND), an Analytical Review of debris flows and floods of a transboundary nature in Central Asia has been prepared.
The Review covers 13 major transboundary river basins in the region, grouped by pairs of countries sharing common risks: the Chu and Talas (Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan); Shahimardan, Kara Darya, Naryn and Isfayramsay (Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan); Isfara (Kyrgyzstan–Tajikistan); Ugam (Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan); Zeravshan (Tajikistan–Uzbekistan); Amu Darya (Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan); as well as the Syr Darya basin, which connects four countries. For each basin, the Review provides river characteristics, a chronology of debris-flow and flood events, risk zones, damage data, and existing mechanisms for cooperation between countries.
The document provides a consolidated picture of risks across all transboundary basins and will serve as a basis for identifying priority basins and regional measures for monitoring, early warning and engineering protection, as well as for estimating the cost of measures under the Investment Plan.
