
12 March 2026. in Tashkent, the Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), Batyr Kurbanberdyyevich Mamedov, held a series of working meetings with representatives of international and national organizations aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development.
During the first meeting, the Executive Director of CAREC met with Dmitry Gorshkov, Head of the Central Asia Office of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The parties discussed the progress of ongoing joint projects, as well as opportunities for developing new initiatives and preparing joint proposals to attract international funding. Particular attention was given to the continuation of the Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development. Representatives of IUCN also expressed interest in participating in the Eighth Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2026), which is organized by CAREC and will take place in April this year in Astana.
The second meeting was held with the Director of the Forestry Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the discussions, the parties addressed the Agency’s participation in CACCC-2026, where the Director of the Forestry Agency will deliver a speech. Special attention was also given to preparations for the signing of six harmonized policies, planned as an outcome of one of the conference sessions, including the signing of a Memorandum on the Peace Park initiative.
The Executive Director of CAREC also met with Bakhtiyor Pulatov, Rector of Green University. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation within the Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development, including the possibility of hosting future programme events at the university premises. In addition, preparations for CACCC-2026 were discussed, where the Rector of Green University will moderate Session 3.1 “Capacity Building and Scientific Cooperation for the Development of Renewable Energy in Central Asia.” The Rector also expressed interest in expanding cooperation with CAREC, including the possibility for the university to participate in the implementation of certain project activities as an implementing partner.
The meetings reaffirmed the mutual interest of all parties in further strengthening partnerships and jointly advancing initiatives aimed at addressing key environmental and climate challenges in Central Asia.
